We are working with 3 such groups. Each group is at a different stage in its development and so has different needs, from helping to establish the group in the early stages, to supporting various on-going activities such as micro finance-projects, education or administration, to helping with long term funding. Volunteers are placed according to their skills and length of time here, as some groups are looking for very specific skills, while others can use help at a more basic level. Contact us directly for information on these groups and what activities are being carried out at present.
Mawenzi Centre for Victims of Sexual Abuse
There are very few, if any, organizations working the issue of sexual abuse in Tanzania. This is a new project that we began working on in September 2007. After obtaining an office at the local hospital and training local counselors, the clinic was opened on November 1st 2007. This project is still in its early stages and there is a lot of work to do here. Both short and long term support is needed, including training of counselors at the clinic, research and data collection and outreach programs to educate the local people about women’s and children’s rights and options, especially in the rural villages of Kilimanjaro. Volunteers are required to have experience and working here also involves researching and collecting information before coming out.
